The purpose of the Crossroads Foundation scholarship is to aid eligible candidates with their postsecondary education pursuits. The scholarship applicant must meet these eligibility requirements:
Applicant Requirements:
- Must be a graduating high school senior.
- Minimum GPA: College or University applicants 3.0 / Trade school applicants 2.5.
- Eligible applicants must be graduates of Chicago Public Schools or a South Suburban School district within Cook County.
- Applicants must apply to a four-year accredited college or university or an accredited trade school with a minimum two-year program completion curriculum.
- Eligibility period: January 1 through April 1 of each scholarship year.
- Applicant must submit a written essay based on the subject selected by the Foundation.
- Applicant must provide a certified copy of their high school transcripts submitted by a school administrator/counselor.
- Applicant must submit a letter of acceptance from a college, university or trade school.
- Applicant must submit two letters of recommendation from their high school teacher, administrator or counselor.
- Applicant must provide a community service involvement statement.
Essay Requirements:
- Must be typed: 300 words; double spaced; 12 pt. font; 1 inch margins.
- Must select one of the following essay topics:
- Discuss an issue of personal, local, national or international concern and its importance to you.
- Select a person of significant influence to you and describe that influence.
- Share a significant experience or achievement and elaborate on the experience.
- Discuss a significant risk you have taken or ethical dilemma you faced and its impact on you.
- Describe a character in fiction, a historical figure, or creative work (as an art, music, science, etc.) and their influence on your life.
Awarded Scholarship Candidate Requirements:
- Selected applicants will participate in a required in-person or virtual interview.
- Selected applicants must show a financial need – FAFSA statement required.
- Selected applicants must submit proof of enrollment in an accredited college, university, or trade school.
- Selected applicants must submit a head and shoulders photograph of themselves.
- Selected applicants must commit to participate in a Crossroads Foundation activity or event as directed.
- Selected applicants must provide a proof of enrollment in an accredited college, university or trade school.
- Selected trade school applicants must submit a copy of the school’s trade curriculum, including the program timeline.
Scholarship Procedures and Administration:
The Crossroads Foundation NFP Scholarship Committee will:
- Review all applications, notify selected applicants, and schedule personal interviews. Note: Incomplete applications will result in disqualification.
- Selected applicants will be scheduled for personal interviews and must complete the selected applicants requirements. The scholarship committee will present their final scholarship recipient recommendations to Crossroads Foundation NFP’s Board of Directors for final approval.
- Scholarship recipients will be notified. Recipients' names and photographs will be posted on the Crossroads Foundation NFP website.
- The scholarship recipients will be acknowledged at the CCRDA and Crossroads Foundation’s annual car show. Scholarship recipient attendance is strongly encouraged.
- Scholarship recipients will be contacted by the scholarship committee to obtain pertinent information for scholarship funds disbursement.
